Modernization of Azerbaijan’s large drilling rig close to completion

As much as 75 percent of the work on modernizing Azerbaijan's "Dede Gorgud" semi-submersible floating drilling rig has been completed, a source at the country's oil and gas market told Trend July 24.

Currently, "Dede Gorgud" drilling rig is at Baku Shipyard.

The repair of the platform started in April and the major work has already been completed, according to the source.

Almost all necessary facilities, transformers, generators, a temperature control system have been installed on the platform, said the source.

"In general, the platform is ready and the remaining work is related to eliminating technical errors in various systems," the source said, adding that "Dede Gorgud" rig will be fully ready to resume the work in August.

It was earlier reported that after completing the repair work, the rig will be sent to Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields.

Caspian Drilling Company with 92.44-percent share owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is the operator of "Dede Gorgud" drilling rig.
