2nd phase of Iran's major ethylene pipeline commenced

Iran launched the second phase of West Ethylene Pipeline, aimed to transit ethylene from South Pars towards north and western petrochemical plants, Fars News Agency reported August 28.

The first phase of the pipeline from Kavyan Petrochemical plant towards western regions in 1200 km was launched in 2013.

The pipeline is a main artery feeding petrochemical plants located in the western provinces, especially Ilam, Lorestan, Mahabad, and Kordestan petrochemical complexes.

The West Ethylene Pipeline will extend 2,700 kilometers. It will have the capacity of transferring 3.5 million metric tons of ethylene. It will get 2.5 million metric tons of ethylene from the South Pars gas field.

The construction of the pipeline started in 2002. The entire pipeline stretches from Assaluyeh in southern Iran to the province of West Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran. Fourteen petrochemical plants are located on the route of the pipeline.
