The opening ceremony of a new household facility of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) was held on Chilov island in the Caspian Sea.

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and the company's management attended the ceremony.

Abdullayev congratulated the oil industry workers, who live and work on the island, on the eve of their professional holiday.

The construction of this facility on the Chilov island was launched in February 2013. There are a dining room for 150 people and a kitchen on its ground floor. There are also a wardrobe, a medical unit, a grocery warehouse.

An auditorium for 150 people, a library, a recreation room, another dining room for 50 people, a kitchen and a warehouse are on the second floor.

The building has been equipped with modern heating and ventilation systems, and all types of communications and power supply.

Abdullayev was pleased with the social and economic conditions created on the island.

"The acute problem with drinking water and electricity has been resolved," he said. "According to the plan, 60,000 of 100,000 trees were planted on the island."

"We implemented a large socio-economic development program on the Chilov island," he said. "The oil production volume on the island is small - about 200 metric tons per year, but new opportunities were revealed to increase oil production. We are considering the possibility of placing large units here for the future development of the island as part of the further development of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of fields."
