Hajigabul-Gardabani gas pipeline via which Azerbaijan exports its gas to Georgia will be fully modernized in several years, president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev told reporters Nov.10.

Hajigabul-Gardabani gas pipeline links the two countries in Azerbaijan's Gazakh district. The pumping capacity of this pipeline exceeds 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The pipeline built in 1971 has slightly outdated which causes various problems, according to the company head.

"Especially, these problems emerge in winter when the gas pressure increases," said Abdullayev, adding that a special program has been worked out to overcome these problems.

The outdated infrastructure was replaced in 2014 on the sections where problems emerge and this work continues in 2015 as well, according to SOCAR's president.

"There is no need to build a new pipeline from Azerbaijan to Georgia," said Abdullayev.
