Oil transportation via BTC increases

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported 34.8 million tons of oil in 2015 compared to 34.6 million tons in 2014.

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported 34.8 million tons of oil in 2015 compared to 34.6 million tons in 2014, Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report for the last year said.

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline transported 76.2 percent of all oil transported by country's main oil pipelines in 2015.

The country's main oil pipelines transported 45.7 million tons of oil during the same period, according to the Committee.

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1768 kilometers of which 443 goes through Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers through Georgia and 1076 through Turkey.

Construction of the pipeline started in April 2003 and began flowing with oil on May 18, 2005.

Stockholders of BTC Co established on August 1, 2002, are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).

The South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) transported 6.65 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas compared to 6.5 bcm, transported in 2014, the report said.

The country's main gas pipelines transported 21.2 bcm of gas in 2015 compared to 21.9 bcm transported in 2014.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline exceeds 700 kilometers. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz gas and condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via this pipeline. Gas is delivered to Georgia and Turkey.
