Salyan Oil operating company developing Kursengi and Garabagli onshore oil fields in Azerbaijan plans to accelerate repair work on oil wells to increase production, a source in the country's oil and gas market told Trend Feb. 9.

The company's main work this year will focus on the maintenance and growth of oil production on the fields, said the source.

"The field's infrastructure is outdated enough, and it is necessary to drill new wells and enhance repair work on existing wells to maintain and increase production," said the source.

"Currently, drilling of new wells is not planned, so we will accelerate repair work. Currently, repair work is carried out on about 80 wells," added the source.

The company's plan of oil production for 2016 is less than in the past, but perhaps it will be exceeded, according to the source.

Salyan Oil company produced about 180,000 tons of oil from Kursengi and Garabagli fields in 2015. The production on the contract area is currently carried out on 244 wells.

The fields are located in Azerbaijan's Salyan district. Some experts believe that the remaining oil reserve on the contract area exceeds 150 million tons.

The contract on developing the Kursengi and Garabagli fields was signed in 1998 for 25 years.

The founders of Salyan Oil are the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and China National Oil & Gas Exploration and Development Corp.
