Azerbaijani drilling rig to be ready for work on Shah Deniz in midsummer

Azerbaijani floating semi-submersible drilling rig Istiglal has been repaired by about 35 percent.

Azerbaijani floating semi-submersible drilling rig Istiglal has been repaired by about 35 percent, a source in the oil and gas market told Trend.

The repair was launched in July.

"A large part of the platform's outdoor equipment is already upgraded. Currently, a major overhaul of the housing unit and the individual modules of drilling, as well as work to strengthen the structures are carried out," said the source.

"There are no delays, work continues according to schedule. By the end of June, the platform should undergo technical tests in the sea, and a month later - return to work on the Shah Deniz field," added the source.

He noted that after the platform's returning to the operation area drilling work within the second development phase of the Shah Deniz will be significantly accelerated.

The Istiqlal rig is used for the operation in the Azerbaijani gas condensate field Shah Deniz. The drilling rig is being repaired at the Caspian Shipyard.

Caspian Drilling Company (CDC, 92.44 percent of the equity is owned by the Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) is the operator of the Istiglal drilling rig.
