Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR will pump about 420,000 tons of oil and 400,000 tons of oil via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline in the third and fourth quarters of 2016 accordingly, a source in the company told Trend April 6.

"Some 420,000 tons of oil will be pumped in the third quarter and 400,000 tons of oil - in the fourth quarter of the year," the source said.

SOCAR will pump some 400,000 tons of oil through the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline in the second quarter of 2016. Some 160,000 tons of this volume will be pumped in April.

SOCAR transported 1.27 million tons of oil via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline in 2015 as compared to 932,160 tons in 2014.

The Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,147 kilometers long. The length of its Azerbaijani section is 231 kilometers, while the Russian section is 916 kilometers long.

The pipeline was filled with oil in October 1996. Its highest capacity stands at 105,000 barrels a day.

An agreement was signed in February 2016 by SOCAR and Russian company Transneft, under which SOCAR will in 2016 transport 1.3 million tons of oil produced by it at onshore and offshore fields via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline.
