Iran has commissioned Shahid Modarres drilling rig to drill a development well in Doroud oil field, SHANA news agency reported Apr. 26.
Production from the oilfield, located off the Persian Gulf island of Kharg in Southern Iran started 40 years ago and Iran draws roughly 15,000 barrels of crude per day from the offshore field.
The field has undergone two development operations and the third stage of development was underway in collaboration with Total, but the French company halted operations in the field following the sanctions and ultimately failed to reach the 83,000-bpd target it had committed to realize.
Masoud Haghighi, on official with the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) said that, Shahid Modarres rig is now settled in the oil field and the drilling operation will begin as soon as possible.
He further said that the offshore rig has drilled 136 oil and gas wells, as well as 58 development and 78 repair wells with total 112 kilometers length since becoming operational in 1982.
