Turkmenistan generates over 13 billion kWh of electricity

In January-July 2016, Turkmenistan produced about 13.635 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, said the country’s Energy Ministry in a message Aug. 29.

More than 2.16 billion kWh of the total volume was exported.

In 2015, electricity production in the country was 22.5 billion kWh and 3.2 billion kWh of this volume was exported.

Currently, the work is being conducted to expand the country’s electricity export to Afghanistan and Iran. Turkmenistan is also studying the possibility of transporting electricity to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Caucasus countries.

The country plans to increase electricity output up to 27.4 billion kWh by 2020 and up to 35.5 billion kWh – by 2030.
