The Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli offshore field, which is currently the largest field in Azerbaijan, has been developed by less than 50 percent, BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birrell told reporters Sept. 7.

Oil reserve of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field is more than 2 billion tons, of which over 1 billion tons are recoverable, according to various data.

Three billion barrels of the Azeri Light oil has been produced at Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli since the start of the field’s development in 1997.

Birrell, calling Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli an amazing field, expressed intention to work at the field for a very long time.

Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli consists of six oil producing platforms – Chirag-1, Central Azeri, Western Azeri, Eastern Azeri, Deepwater Gunashli, West Chirag – and two PCWU platforms equipped with the latest technologies.

BP is the operator of Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli with a 35.78-percent share.

A production sharing agreement on the field was signed in 1994.
