Low pressure gas outburst occurred at the Gunashli 19 platform of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, the company said in a message Sept. 26.
“Measures were taken in accordance with safety procedures,” SOCAR said. “Safety of 49 employees of the platform was ensured.”
There are no casualties, said the message.
SOCAR said there is no reason to evacuate the employees.
The gas outburst occurred as a result of repair work at the well #71, the message said.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
Gunashli is one of the oldest and biggest offshore fields in Azerbaijan. The field’s shallow part is developed by SOCAR on its own and its deep-water part, included in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of fields, is developed by a consortium led by BP.
