Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR reached an agreement to purchase an OMV Petrol Ofisi terminal in Izmir, said the SOCAR Turkey Energy Director General Zaur Gahramanov, according to Turkish media.

“The terminal’s capacity is 200,000 cubic meters, however, its capacity can be increased to 700,000 cubic meters. In addition, the terminal can contain 45,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas and this figure can be also increased,” said Gahramanov.

He said that after the purchase of the terminal, SOCAR investments in Turkey will reach $18 billion.

The agreement is expected to be signed by late 2016.

Earlier it was reported that the Austrian company OMV was selling its Turkish subsidiary OMV Petrol Ofisi AS, since, as a part of its strategy, it intends to focus on mining companies and integrated activities on oil refining.

In this regard, OMV started selling up to 100 percent of share in OMV Petrol Ofisi AS, which owns one of the largest filling station networks in Turkey.

Head of SOCAR Turkey Energy Zaur Gahramanov announced that this autumn the Azerbaijani company will begin a study of the issue of acquisition of OMV gas assets in Turkey.

OMV Petrol Ofisi owns 1,785 filling stations in Turkey.
