The production of crude oil in the US reached the highest level in 2015, according to the report of the country’s Energy Information Agency (EIA).

“The US field production of crude oil increased in 2015 for the seventh consecutive year, reaching 9.42 million barrels per day,” said EIA. “This was the highest crude oil production level since 1972, based on final production numbers in EIA’s Petroleum Supply Annual.”

Although annual oil production for 2015 grew, monthly US crude oil production has declined since April 2015, according to the report.

EIA said that lower oil prices led to slower development activity, and production in the US fell to 8.74 million barrels per day in August 2016, the latest month for which survey data is available.

This is while the US crude oil imports averaged 9 million barrels per day during the week ending October 28, up by 2 million barrels per day from the previous week, EIA said in its Weekly Petroleum Status Report.

The country’s crude oil refinery inputs averaged over 15.4 million barrels per day during that week, or 104,000 barrels per day less than the previous week’s average, according to the report.
