Azerbaijan increases oil transportation via BTC

In January-November 2016, about 26.68 million tons of oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, as compared to 26.37 million tons in the same period of 2015, said Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in a message posted on its website Dec. 6.

The BTC transported 2.07 million tons of Azerbaijani oil and 344,990 tons of Turkmen oil in November 2016.

More than 319.15 million tons of oil has been transported via the BTC since the beginning of the pipeline’s commissioning.

In January-November 2016, 26.75 million tons of oil was sent to global markets from Turkey’s Ceyhan port, as compared to 26.34 million tons in the same period of 2015.

In total, 317.95 million tons of Azerbaijani oil has been sent to global markets from the Ceyhan port since the beginning of the BTC pipeline’s commissioning.

Total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers, including a 443-kilometer section running through Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer section in Georgia and a 1,076-kilometer section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil May 18, 2005.

Shareholders of the BTC pipeline are: BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), CIECO (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
