Kazakhstan’s Shymkent refinery owned by PetroKazakhstan Oil Products increased gasoline and diesel fuel production in 2016, the company said Jan. 11.

Gasoline production increased from 987,964 tons in 2015 to 1,032 million tons in 2016. Diesel fuel production rose from 1.192 million tons in 2015 to 1,203 million tons in 2016.

The Shymkent Refinery is undergoing a modernization which will significantly improve the quality of its products, the environmental friendliness of the products, and ensure the output of high-octane gasoline meeting the K5 standard (analogue of Euro 5 standard in the countries of the Customs Union). However the ongoing modernization does not affect oil processing.

Design capacity of Shymkent Refinery is 5.25 million tons per year. The refinery gives 30 percent of oil products produced in Kazakhstan.
Besides Shymkent refinery there are two more huge refineries in Kazakhstan – operating in Atyrau and Pavlodar.
