The French company Axens has confirmed the signing of a licensing agreement with the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR to use AlphaButol technology as part of the project for the creation of an oil and gas processing and petrochemical complex (GPC) in Azerbaijan, Axens said in a message Jan. 18.

The Axens’ AlphaButol technology is used to get high purity 1-Butene through ethylene dimerization.

An AlphaButol unit with a capacity of 32,000 tons per year will be installed in the territory of SOCAR’s new petrochemical complex in Garadagh.

“Axens has many years of experience in production of high purity 1-Butene used to produce polymers meeting the highest international quality standards. SOCAR selected Axens as the main licensor in linear alpha-olefins production,” reads the message.

The GPC project envisages construction of gas processing and petrochemical complex 15 km away from Baku by the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR. The capacity of the complex will be around 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The cost of the project is around $4 billion.
