In 2017, 40 wells will be drilled at Absheronneft Oil and Gas Production Department (OGPD), Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR said in a message.
Twelve sidetracks from the existing wells will also be drilled in 2017, according to the message.
“According to forecasts, this will increase oil production by 1,808 tons. It is also planned to improve the existing infrastructure and build new facilities in order to increase production volumes at the OGPD,” reads the message.
It was also noted that Absheronneft extracted a record amount of oil in 2016.
"Last year, the OGPD extracted 363,670 tons of oil, which exceeded the forecast amount of production (313,900 tons) by 15.9 percent. The OGPD staff intends to continue this trend in the current year as well,” the message says.
