The Southern Gas Corridor is of great importance, says Mladen Ivanic, chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Energy supply is one of the key objectives for all the European countries and in that context the Southern Gas Corridor is of a great importance,” Ivanic said in an interview with Trend.

“My opinion is that all the western Balkan countries should take a stand about it,” he added.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina had clearly stated that the country is interested in the alternative system of gas supply.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.

The gas to be produced as part of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz Stage 2 is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.

As part of the Shah Deniz Stage 2, the gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and constructing Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans Adriatic Pipeline.
