The construction project of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, implemented by Turkmenistan, is of great interest for Kazakhstan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported May 4 citing Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

Mamin made the remarks during his meeting with Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

“The government of Kazakhstan is interested in expanding multifaceted cooperation with Turkmenistan,” noted the Kazakh official.

The two sides named the trade and economic sphere, energy, transport and communications and agricultural sector among the priority areas. According to the Turkmen government’s message, the next meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was held in Ashgabat. The parties also expressed interest in strengthening the cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fuel and energy sector, and several other industries.

“Particularly, opportunities for participation of Kazakhstan’s companies in the implementation of construction project of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India transnational gas pipeline were discussed,” says the message.

Construction of the Turkmen section of TAPI was launched on Dec. 13, 2015. The pipeline’s annual capacity will be 33 billion cubic meters. TAPI’s total length will be 1,814 kilometers.

During the meeting between Berdimuhamedov and Mamin, special attention was paid to the cooperation in the transport sphere, where the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway serves as an example of effective efforts.
