AZERBAIJAN CUT OFF RUSSIAN GAS, FOLLOWING AN EXPLOSION ON MAIN SUPPLY LINE

(RIA Novosti) вЂ" Kaspiygasprom, a Russian company in charge of maintenance and operation of gas pipelines running through Dagestan to Azerbaijan, has promised to complete repair work on the Mozdok - Gazi-Mahammad gas main, following an explosion that severely damaged the route on July 5.

The company’s dispatching office reported that maintenance teams had to replace 20 meters of pipes setting a diameter of 1,020 mm.

The maintenance crew of 60 repairmen and 16 means of transportation have been involved in the rehabilitation
work.

The explosion, which took place at the settlement of Uytash south of Dagestan’s capital, Mahachgala, is studied by the corresponding explosion & technical commission of experts. However, the case of sabotage is not ruled out.

The gas main, which supplies gas to the southern part of Russia’s volatile Dagestan Republic and neighboring Azerbaijan, was put out of action following an act of sabotage in April this year.
