The International Monetary Fund (IMF) continues adhering an idea on inexpediency of grants-in-aid in the form of law energy tariffs, Augustine Karstens, Deputy Distribution Director of the IMF, said. The government would be better to sell energy resources at right prices’.

The assistance could be implemented through approval of social assistance from the budget, but not the grants-in-aid. It distorts a process of price rise, Karstens says.

The last rise in energy tariffs was implemented on 1 November 2004. In his turn the IMF recommended Azerbaijan to increase the prices of energy resources in line with the world prices.
