The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) thinks, 2,5 billion cubic meters of gas may be produced for 3 years on the shallow part of the “Gyuneshli” field in the framework of the program on the increase of the oil and gas extraction, the SOCAR President Natik Aliyev told Trend.

According to him, the project is financed on the SOCAR own means. "The project implementation starts in the current year and preparations are now underway. Drilling of wells is scheduled for 2007", вЂ" he noted.

Drilling of 5 new gas wells from the deep-water stationary platform (DWSP) N13 installed on “Guneshli” is planned within the program. Extension of the DWSP N 11 is also planned. It is scheduled for early 2006.

Previously SOCAR noted, that 12 billion AZM ($2,5 million) would be needed for the project implementation. Restoring of the base in Zykh (Baku outskirts), which in Soviet times was installed on “Chirag” platform is currently underway.

The works are carried out for the extension of DWSP N11. After accomplishment of construction works the base will be loaded on a barge and delivered to the destination place on sea. This event is scheduled till the year-end.

Development of the “Gyuneshli” shallow sector is carried out since 1980. It is located to the southeast of the Apsheron peninsular and provides up to 65% extraction of the Azerbaijani oil and 83% of the country’s off-shore production. The remaining deposits of the area are appraised as 94-130 million tons of oil.
