The Barmek Azerbaijan, the operator of the energy distribution networks of Baku and Sumgayit, paid off 12bn manats or around $2.62m to the Azerbaijani Taxes Ministry without the results of the court hearing, Husseyn Arabul, the President of the Company, told Trend in an exclusive interview. The figure was paid on the base of the disputable taxation audit for 2003-2004.

According to Arabul, the Azerbaijani Economic Court is expected to make a sentence in this regard soon. “It is not excluded that the funds paid to the Ministry may be returned if we win the court hearing,” he noted.

The Taxes Ministry reported that the Barmek Azerbaijan had $3.6m arrears before the state. The Department for Preliminary Investigation of Tax Crimes under the Taxes Ministry filed 23 criminal cases, one of which concerned the Barmek Azerbaijan.
