Swiss president: Switzerland is ready to broaden cooperation with Turkmenistan

Following a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow in Bern, Swiss President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf stated that the country is ready to develop and broaden its partnership with Turkmenistan in all directions, including economic, Turkmen government said on Tuesday.

Following a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow in Bern, Swiss President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf stated that the country is ready to develop and broaden its partnership with Turkmenistan in all directions, including economic, Turkmen government said on Tuesday.

The Turkmen president made his first official visit to Switzerland.

During the high level meeting the parties spoke of their support for constructive political dialogue and a neutrality policy by both states.

Exchange of opinions on a number of international and regional policy issues of mutual interest took place during the meeting

Turkmenistan is interested in a partnership with Switzerland in such fields as machinery, chemical, processing and food industry, pharmaceutical and biochemical production and transport.

Turkmenbashi is continuing which will enable an increase in the transportation of goods to Europe.

"Turkmenistan will welcome the participation of Swiss transport and construction companies in project realisation," the head of the state said, inviting companies to actively participate in joint investment project realisation.

The Turkmen head of state proposed the establishment of an intergovernmental Turkmen Swiss commission on economic cooperation.

Berdimuhamedow also noted that as one of major energy states in the world, Turkmenistan is implementing a diversification policy of energy export routes to world markets, conducting useful work in this direction.

"By initiating the provision of global energy security, stable and safe transit of energy sources to world markets, our country aspires to equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, considering the interests of all participants - suppliers, transistors and consumers," the Turkmen president stated.

Establishment of an expert group on the development of an international mechanism of stable energy supplies under UN auspices was noted.

Some 33 companies with participation of Swiss capital are currently operating in Turkmenistan, some 60 projects, which were realised and are currently implemented by Swiss companies, have been registered.

These are projects in fuel and energy complex, transport and communication, in mutual investments, tourism and other fields.

Turkmen mass media reported that Turkmen president invited Swiss head of state to visit Turkmenistan.
