Deflation observed in Georgia

In February 2013 the rate of deflation in Georgia constituted 2.1 per cent as compared with February last year.

In February 2013 the rate of deflation in Georgia constituted 2.1 per cent as compared with February last year.

According to the information provided by the Georgian Statistics Service, this figure has been formed during 12 months mainly under the influence of price changes in the following groups of goods and services:

Prices of food products and alcohol-free drinks declined 3.3 per cent. Vegetable prices declined by 13.1 per cent, fish 8.3 per cent, sugar, jam and other candies 5.9 per cent, meat and meat products 3.9 per cent and butters and oils two per cent.

In the group of water, electricity and gas supplies, prices dropped by seven per cent.

A price decline has been recorded in the following subgroups: electricity, gas and other fuels by 8.9 per cent and other public utilities 7.9 per cent.

Prices declined by three per cent in the group of recreation, entertainment and culture. The prices of audio-visual, photography and data processing equipment reduced by 14.4 per cent.
