Freight trains in Turkey will be scanned, the country's Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici said, Sabah newspaper reported.

According to the minister, the scanning system of freight trains has been operating in a test mode for nearly a year.

Yazici also stressed that the cost of the new scanning system is about three billion euros. To date, over 42 trains were scanned arriving from Iran.

"The scanning system of freight trains allows a quick recognition of goods," the minister stressed.

According to Yazici, the new scanning system can also detect radioactive elements.
