By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The European Union (EU) has re-imposed sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) two days ahead of a court order for annulling the EU sanctions takes effect, the Fars News Agency quoted IRISL managing director Mohammad-Hossein Dajmar as saying on No.17.
The sanctions have been imposed on one of the officials and two foreign-based subsidiaries of the IRISL, Dajmar said.
Baseless accusations about the IRISL involvement in nuclear and missile works is the reason for re-imposing the sanctions, he explained.
On September 6, the EU General Court annulled the asset freeze sanctions imposed against several Iranian entities because there was not sufficient evidence to justify the unilateral bans.
The decision came despite the substantive progress made in the course of nuclear talks between Iran and six major world powers.
Governments in Europe and the United States had targeted hundreds of Iranian companies such as IRISL, accusing them of aiding Tehran's nuclear program which they suspect has covert military aims and which they want to be curbed, according to Reuters.
But Europe's second highest General Court has argued in some cases, including the one related to IRISL, that the EU failed to provide sufficient evidence linking the companies to Iran's nuclear work to justify sanctions and ordered to lift them.
