Azerbaijan is interested in cooperation with Tatarstan in the field of non-oil sector development, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Niyazi Safarov said at an Azerbaijani-Russian business meeting in Baku today.

"A Tatar delegation expressed interest in cooperation in the field of engineering, agriculture and others," he said.

"The sides' interests coincide," Safarov said. "There are opportunities for cooperation between the sides."

"At present, the operations are underway to create four industrial parks in Azerbaijan," he said. "In particular, an industrial park is being created in Sumgait. Tatarstan has experience in creating free economic zones and industrial parks. So, it can share its experience in this area."

"The relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are at the strategic cooperation level," Safarov added. "Azerbaijan's economy is being developed. The country's economic potential may be aimed at expanding the bilateral cooperation with the Russian Federation and its constituent units, including Tatarstan."

There are prospects for increasing engineering, chemical, light, food and agricultural supplies from Tatarstan, Tatar Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ildar Mingaleev said.

"The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tatarstan amounted to $255 million in 2012," he added.
