Japan has delivered a Türksat 4A satellite to Turkey, Anadolu agency reported today.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz both attended the ceremony, according to the agency.

The Türksat 4A satellite will be launched into orbit on February 15, 2014. It was created by the Japanese Mitsubishi Electric Company.

The Turkish first remote sensing satellite RASAT was launched in 2011. Turkey launched its second satellite Göktürk- 2 from the Chinese Jiuquan base on December 18, 2012. The satellite is used for defence purposes.

The Türksat 5A satellite is expected to be used in 2016.
