A working meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was held at the Georgian Economy Ministry on Jan.8.

A report on the construction of the railway for 2013, as well as measures planned to be implemented this year were discussed at the meeting held under the chairmanship of the country's Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Georgian Economy Ministry told Trend.

First Deputy Economy Minister Dmitry Kumsishvili, Deputy Minister Natia Mikeladze, Director of Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway LLC Oleg Bichiashvili and other officials took part at the meeting, the ministry said.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project envisages the reconstruction of a 153 kilometres section of Marabda-Kartsakhi and construction of a 27 kilometre long railway line from Akhalkalaki to the border with Turkey.

The work on the section is being carried out in four stages. Some 31 percent of the total volume of the work on construction of the Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has been completed.

The ministry said it plans to hold the next meeting of the bilateral Georgian-Azerbaijani Coordinating Council on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project in the near future. Financial and technical issues will then be discussed.
