People crossing between Azerbaijan, Iran through customs decreases by 5.5 percent

Passenger traffic between Iran and Azerbaijan via four customs checkpoints has decreased by 5.45 percent during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21) compared to the same period of the last year.

The Iranian Custom Administration's latest monthly report released on Jan. 10 said Some 2.04 million people have passed the border checkpoints of Astara, Bilasuvar, Poldasht and Julfa between Iran and Azerbaijan during the period.

The figure stood at 2.15 million in the same period of last year.

Bilasuvar topped the list of custom checkpoint between Iran and Azerbaijan in terms of passenger traffic with some 801,457 passengers, while Julfa (644,223 passengers), Astara (501, 821 passengers) and Poldasht (90,209 passengers) followed in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year.

Some 21.961 million people have passed in total through Iran's border checkpoints in the first three quarters of the current Iranian calendar year, which indicates a 6.89 percent increase over the same period of last year.

About 11.065 million peoples have entered the country, while some 10.896 million have exited from checkpoints during the period.

Gheshm airport, Imam Khomeini airport and Kish airport customs were the top three checkpoints in terms of passenger traffic with 4.58 million, 3.806 million and 2.394 million passengers` check in and out during the first nine months of the current solar year. The three airports share 49 percent of total passenger traffic between Iran and abroad.
