Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.16
By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey doesn't intend to enrich uranium for use at NPP, Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources said at the conference of the country's diplomats, Turkish Anadolu agency reported on Jan.16.

The information about Turkey's intention to enrich uranium is untrue and aims to drag the country into a new crisis, according to Yildiz.

Earlier, several local media reported that Turkey allegedly is going to enrich uranium.

The first Akkuyu nuclear power plant will be built in accordance with the Russian project providing for the construction of four VVER-1200 type power units. The agreement on the construction of the station was signed in May 2010.

The capacity of each unit will be 1200 megawatts and the total capacity will be equal to 4,800 megawatts. It is assumed that these units are to be built in sequence at intervals over a year.

In addition, Turkey and Japan signed a $22 billion agreement on May 4 for the creation of a NPP in Turkey in the Sinop region.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey will be able to independently construct the third NPP.
