“Azerbaijani railways” to purchase IT-equipment for financial system

"Azerbaijani Railways" CJSC has announced a tender for the purchase of IT-equipment for the financial system within the framework of the project of support of railway transport and trade, the information of the tender commission published in the official press said on Feb. 7.

According to the information, the purchase of IT-equipment will be conducted for the part of the World Bank`s credit allocated to the project of support of railway transport and trade.

The subject of the tender is the creation of a computerized accounting system working on the computerized technical infrastructure integrated in accordance with the needs of the Closed Joint-Stock Company.

The terms of the installation of the equipment cover 365 days from the moment of signing the contract.

According to the information, the cost of the participation in the tender is 120 manats or $250. Tender bids strengthened by the bank guarantee in the amount of $80 000 will be accepted till 17:00 Apr. 1 2014

The project supports the implementation of the program of the development of Azerbaijani railways directed at the improvement of railway service in the country, development of trade and attracting transit loads between Europe and Central Asia.

The railway transport is an important element of the diversification strategy of the Azerbaijani economy. The income of this sector was equal to five percent of the nonoil export of the country in 2012. By investing in the railway infrastructure, Azerbaijan intends to achieve the increase of the volume of transit in the Central-Asian and Black Sea regions, benefiting from the geographical location of the country as the shortest way between Central Asia and Europe.

The primary volume of funding of the World Bank within the framework of this project was $450 million with its total cost in the amount of $795 million. In June 2013, the World Bank`s Board of Directors approved the allocation of additional funding in the amount of $220 million, which will be directed at the modernization of the system of signaling, centralization and blocking for the corridor "East-West" in the area from Baku to the borders with Georgia.
