Georgian commercial banks slightly reduce lending in January 2014

Credit investments at the Georgian commercial banks decreased by 0.2 percent, or 18.6 million lari ($1= 1.74 lari) compared to the previous month, amounting to 10.5 billion lari as of Feb.1. The volume of loans issued in the national currency increased by 52.3 million lari (1.3 percent), while the volume of loans issued in international currency decreased by 71 million lari (1.1 percent), the National Bank of Georgia told Trend.

Resident legal entities were given 1.1 billion lari, which is 1.3 percent, or 13.8 million lari less compared to the previous month in the national currency in the form of credit and 4.3 billion lari in international currency, by 0.7 percent or by 31.7 million lari less compared to the previous month.

A small part, some 45.1 percent of the total volume of the crediting of legal entities fell to the trade area. The volume of loans issued to the trade area decreased by0.9 percent, or 23.2 million lari in January 2014 compared to December 2013 and amounted to 2.4 billion lari.

The share of loans issued to industry was 17.4 percent which amounted to 934.9 million lari by February 2014, by 0.8 percent, or 7.4 million lari less and 8.1 percent fell to construction which amounted to 433.3 million lari, by 0.5 percent, or 2.3 million lari less.

The volume of crediting of individuals increased by 1.3 percent, or by 59.1 million lari throughout January and amounted to 4.8 billion lari.
