By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey's Privatization Agency (OIB) extended the timeframe of the Derince port privatization tender until May 28, according to a message posted on Turkish Resmi Gazete's (Official Newspaper) website on April 17.

The port is included into the balance sheet of the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways (TCDD).

The term of the port's lease will be 39 years, according to the message. The port's privatization cost is $25 million.

The tender for the port's privatization was announced in October 2013. In November 2013, the OIB extended the Derince port privatization tender till 16 January 2014.

The causes for prolonging the tender timeframe have not been reported. Turkish and foreign companies are allowed to participate in the tender. The participation fee is 20,000 liras.

Derince port is one of the oldest seaports in Turkey (built in 1890) and is mainly used for importing and exporting motor vehicles.

The port is located in Turkey's Izmit Province, and has an area of over 400,000 square meters and a capacity of 50,000 TEU.

Last year Turkey already privatized one port. The tender for Istanbul yacht port's privatization was completed in July 2013.

The tender's winner was Sembol Uluslararası Yatırım-Ekopark Turizm-Fine Otelcilik joint venture, which offered over $1.3 billion for asset. Two five-star hotels, restaurants and shops, located in the port's area, were also put up for privatization as part of the tender.

The official exchange rate on April 17 is 2.1322 TRY/USD.
