Belarus will accelerate the construction of a mining and processing plant for the production of potash fertilizers in Turkmenistan.

Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich made the remarks at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat, according to the Turkmen government report.

The point is the project in Koytendag Etrap (district) of the Lebap velayat (region) where the largest mining complex of the Central Asia is being constructed near large fields.

The Belarusian PM assured, the Belarusian side will m maximize its effort to accelerate the implementation of this ambitious project, with the implementation of all work at a high standard, the report said.

The cost of the first phase, which is estimated at more than $1 billion, has erected the "Belgorkhimprom" OJSC since August 2009. Its capacity is 1.4 million tonnes of fertilizers per year.

The production of mineral fertilizers is one of the most profitable industries. The main factors is the increase in world population, the demand for grains and oilseeds for biofuel production.

Besides increasing productivity, potash fertilizers increase qualitative characteristics of cultivated products. It is reflected in the increase of a plant`s resistance to disease, as well as increase in fruit firmness during storage and transport.

Besides chemical industry, trade - economic and transport areas, engineering industry, agriculture, energy, manufacturing and construction have been named as the major areas of partnership at the meeting.

Particular attention was paid to the revitalization of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

A package of proposals has been prepared on the expansion of the range and volume of deliveries of Belarusian equipment, machinery and equipment for various purposes. Several units of grain and forage harvesters, buses with the latest modifications will be delivered to Turkmenistan in the near future to ensure that these machines to tested in local climatic conditions.

Belarus is ready to offer Turkmenistan its potential, particularly in the sphere of modern production, housing modernization, and training of qualified personnel.
