Iran does not have any plan to increase transit tariffs at its ports.

Deputy Director of Port and Maritime Organization of Iran Ali Jahandide said on June 24 that the organization is even considering decreasing the tariffs, Iran's ISNA News Agency reported.

"The organization is doing its best to keep the transit tariff at a rate which helps Iran to stay in the international market," he said.

"Nearly 400 million people live in the neighboring countries," Jahandide said, adding that this provides Iran with a great economic opportunity.

Over 2.197 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first two months of the current calendar year (March 21 - May 20).

Some 96 percent of the mentioned amount (2.099 million tons) was transited via roads and the other 4 percent (97,000 tons) by railways, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on June 9.

About 1.101 million tons of transited goods were oil products and 1.096 million tons were non-oil products.

The transited consignments mostly consist of fuel, construction materials, cotton, home appliances, vehicles, foodstuff and fertilizers.
