Tbilisi, Georgia, July 16

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The tariffs for electricity will be increased in Georgia, the country's Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said during a government meeting on July 16.

Kaladze commented on the statement made by the Energo-Pro Georgia company about the possibility of increase in tariffs for electricity in the country.

Energo-Pro Georgia is engaged in distribution and transmission of electricity in the regions of Georgia.

"The company representatives have made an untrue statement. The tariffs for electricity will remain unchanged in the country," he stressed.

Currently, the tariffs for electricity vary from 12.5 tetri to 17.5 tetri per one kilowatt hour in different regions of Georgia.

Previously, a representative of the Energo-Pro Georgia said that if the government intends to improve the country's electricity supply, then there will be need to increase the tariffs for electricity.

The official exchange rate on July 16 is 1.76 lari/1$.
