Uzbekistan slightly reduces cotton fiber production

The cotton fiber production has dropped by 2.7 percent in Jan.-June 2014, compared to the same period of 2013 and stood at 604,900 tons In Uzbekistan, a source in the governmental circles told Trend on July 21.

The cotton yarn production has grown by 6.6 percent since early 2014 and hit 97,860 tons, while the production of cotton fabrics has increased by 15 percent and stood at 28.6 million square meters.

The cotton fiber production in Uzbekistan increased by 1.4 percent in 2013, compared to 2012 and reached 1,087,451 tons. The cotton yarn production saw an increase by 17.4 percent and hit 171,348 tons, while the cotton fabrics production grew by 37.7 percent and stood at 77.73 million square meters.

Uzbekistan ranks sixth for production and third for the export of cotton fiber in the world. The country produces around 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of cotton fiber per year.
