Turkmenistan, Slovenia sign MoU in telecommunications sphere

Turkmenistan's TurkmenTelecom state telecommunications company and Slovenia's Iskratel, Telekomunikacijski sistemi, d.o.o., Kranj have signed a memorandum of understanding in Ashgabat, a message from the Turkmen government said on July 23.

The signing ceremony took place during the official visit of Slovenian President Borut Pahor to Turkmenistan from July 22 to July 23, the government message said.

During the visit, Pahor held negotiations with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The sphere of communications and telecommunications is one of the most promising and dynamically developing sectors of Turkmenistan's economy. The country's Ministry of Communications has partner relations with such companies as Sony, JVC, Siemens-Nokia, Shell & Wilcox, Tandberg, Rhode & Schwarz, NEC, Eurasia Trans Ltd, Prima Telecom and others.

TurkmenTelecom reviews the proposals from the Cisco, Alcatel, Juniper and other companies on using high-quality television and broadband Internet access in the country.

Turkmenistan also plans to put its first satellite into the orbit with the assistance of France's Thales Alenia Space company.
