Uzbekistan to submit $ 295 million on reproductive health strengthening

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved the state program on further strengthening of reproductive health, maternal health, children and adolescents for the period of 2014 - 2018.

According to documents released on August 11, 205.3 billion soums and $ 206.4 million are planned to be allocated for the implementation of measures under the program.

The program will take measures to enhance the quality of specialized medical services, educational programs and educational process of medical personnel, to expand the vaccination of children, the construction of new hospitals and equipment of medical institutions.

The resolution notes that in the years 2009 - 2013; within the framework of the "Healthy mother - healthy child", the state program "Year of the Healthy Child" national model of maternal and child health, obstetric institutions of the republic were equipped with modern medical equipment, modern perinatal centers were established in the regional centers, and more than 1.5 million pregnant women in rural areas were provided with budget multivitamin complexes by the state.

As a result, the number of children born with congenital malformations decreased by 1.3 times over the past five years. Among the children age 6 - 15 years, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections fell by 9.7 percent, pneumonia by 49.1 percent, bronchitis by 32.8 percent, scoliosis by 32.7 percent.

However, further strengthening of prevention, treatment and diagnostic measures for the prevention of congenital and hereditary diseases, maternal and child health patronage system improvement are needed, especially in rural areas as well as the strengthening of the material-technical base of pediatric and maternity hospitals.

Funding for the program is carried out by the budget and off-budget funds totaling 190.5 billion soums and $ 8.1 million dollars. Also artists and charitable organizations will submit 14.8 billion soums and $ 15.7 million dollars for the implementation of the program. International organizations, financial institutions are planned to attract loans and grants in the amount of $182.6 million dollars.

According to the official statistics, in 2013 the population of Uzbekistan increased by 1.7 percent and reached 30.5 million people.
