By Demir Azizov- Trend:

Uzbekistan extended until 1 October duties on certain goods such as shipments of materials, equipment and spare parts, technical and project documents for the construction of a new sulfuric acid plant at the smelter AMMC (Tashkent region, Almalyk city, AMMC) and the organization of production of Portland cement and white cement in Jizzakh region.

The application of these benefits in accordance with previous decisions of the government was completed on the first of July 2014.

The decision was made "to complete the modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of production capacity, to increase production of competitive products, to expand the export potential of AMMC."

Both projects are scheduled to be implemented before the end of 2014.

As previously reported, AMMC in 2012 began on the construction of a smelter plant at a new plant for the production of sulfuric acid of the total cost of $80.3 million. AMMC has signed a contract with the German Outotec GmbH for the development of documentation for the technological part, equipment supply, installation and execution of commissioning "turnkey" production with a capacity of 500 000 tonnes of sulfuric acid per year.

The project is financed by the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan (FRDU) in the amount of $30 million, by the Uzbek banks totaling $29 million and own equity of AMMC in the amount of $21.3 million.

In July 2012 AMMC and Turkish Dal Teknik Makina Ticaret Ve Sanayi AS signed a contract for construction of cement plants with a total value of $114.2 million. The design capacity of the plant is 350 000 tonnes of white cement and 760 tonnes of Portland cement.

Contract with the Turkish company worth $97.6 million was signed for the development of documentation of the process, supply and installation, construction, and commissioning of works on a "turnkey". AMMC will implement improvement of a career, construction of industrial infrastructure and other works in the amount of $16.6 million.

The project is financed by the credits of FRDU in the amount of $74.2 million and own equity of AMMC in the amount of $40 million.

Commissioning of the cement plant will completely cover the needs of the cement plant, and also will make it possible to send up to 200 000 tonnes of production per year to the domestic market and for export.

AMMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan and one of the largest manufacturers of non-ferrous metals in the Central Asian region. The company produces refined copper (cathode), metallic zinc, molybdenum, lead concentrate and other products. AMMC produces nearly 90 percent of silver and 20 percent of the gold in the country. The total volume of production is estimated at more than $300 million a year. About 60 percent of production is exported, of which five percent are the CIS countries.
