The Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry's project "Cities of Common Cultural Heritage" became the winner among more than 30 projects submitted to the Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Coordinator of the COMCEC working group on tourism Maleyka Huseynova said at a workshop conducted as part of the international archaeological tourism project "Cities of the Common Cultural Heritage".

The project aims to attract tourists from Japan and Europe, as well as from Islamic countries to four COMCEC member-states. It will serve to promote the tourism potential and Islamic cultural and historical heritage of the participating countries at an international level.

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey, which are the COMCEC member states will examine the potential of cultural tourism, in particular archaeological tourism. The regions with similar samples of cultural heritage were determined. As a result of research, a common tourist product that combines these countries was created. The project is being implemented with the support of the Turkish Development Bank through the Committee's funds.
