Around 147.7 million metric tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in January-August 2014, which is 2 percent more than in the same period of 2014, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of January-August.
The volume of non-oil cargo transportation increased 3.2 percent in January-August and hit 105.2 million metric tons, according to the committee.
Around 76.7 percent of the total volume of cargo transported in January-August accounted for the private sector.
Some 58 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 28.1 percent - pipelines, 9.5 percent - trains and 4.4 percent - ships.
Azerbaijan's transport sector transported about 218 million metric tons of cargo in 2013, which is 3.4 percent more than in 2012.
Around 1.2 billion people were transported by passenger vehicles in January-August, which is 5 percent more than in the same period of 2013. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (87.9 percent) and metro (11.9 percent).
Some 14 million metric tons of cargo were transported by railway in January - August compared to 14.9 million metric tons in the same period of 2013.
Some 6.5 million metric tons of cargo were transported by ships in January-August compared to 7.8 million metric tons in the same period of 2013. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports in January-August amounted to 8 million metric tons.
Some 85.5 million metric tons of cargo were transported by vehicles, which is 2.7 percent more than in January-August 2013. The volume of passenger transportation stood at 1 billion people (5.2 percent growth). Some 96.3 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.7 percent - by cars.
Some 138.7 million people were transported by the subway, which is 3.6 percent more compared to January-August 2013.
Some 1.2 million passengers were transported by planes, which is 8.5 percent more than in the same period of 2013. Around 0.3 percent of transportation by this type of transport fell to the private sector.
