By Saba Aghayeva - Trend:

Azerbaijan and Hungary prepared a package of draft intergovernmental agreements on bilateral cooperation. Currently, draft intergovernmental agreements in such areas as tourism, education, information technologies, sports, youth policy, and air traffic were prepared. Plans are to sign them in the near future, Hungarian ambassador to Azerbaijan Zsolt Csutora told Trend on Sept. 17.

The diplomat stressed successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary.

"The two countries established successful cooperation in the political sphere," he said. "The economic cooperation is being developed."

"There is a huge potential for the development of trade and economic cooperation," he said. "Hungarian companies consider Azerbaijani market as an alternative to the Russian market amid the EU sanctions. Our companies are ready to enter the Azerbaijani market with high-quality Hungarian food, including cheese and sausages, canned products. Azerbaijan shows great interest in it."

"The governments of both countries have repeatedly expressed interest in increasing bilateral trade turnover," he said. "Currently, it does not fully meet the existing potential."

"There is a good potential to be used," Csutora added.

"Good cooperation was established as part of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation," he said. "We are constantly in contact with the co-chairman of the commission from the Azerbaijani side, Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev. We plan to hold a business forum in Budapest to enhance cooperation this fall. Businessmen from both countries will be able to discuss the opportunities of the cooperation."

The diplomat called Azerbaijan's road infrastructure as another potential area of the cooperation, where Hungarian companies intend to work.

"The Hungarian companies are willing to cooperate with Azerbaijan in this field and to participate in the projects of the Ministry of Transport," he said.

"There are favorable opportunities for cooperation in the field of water management," he said. "Hungary intends to build a reservoir and an intellectual water management center in Azerbaijan."

The diplomat stressed that Hungary is a good platform for Azerbaijani investors.

"There are good opportunities for investing in the Hungarian economy, particularly, in the construction and real estate with attractive prices," Csutora added.

The diplomat stressed the good relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan in the humanitarian sphere.

"This year, the Hungarian government has allocated 200 places for admitting Azerbaijani students to the universities of the country, along with a scholarship and free accommodation in hostels," he said. "Two years ago, only two Azerbaijani students studied at the universities of Hungary. There were 28 students in 2013. The embassy issued 50 student visas in 2014."

Csutora said that the faculty of the Hungarian language opened at the University of Languages of Azerbaijan on September 15. A teacher from Hungary teaches there.

"The University delivered an honorary doctorate diploma to me on Sept. 9 and this is an honor," he said.

Earlier, EU president Herman Van Rompuy, Israeli President Shimon Peres and other prominent political and public figures received honorary doctorate diplomas from the University of Languages.

The university's awarding of the Honorary Doctor Diploma to the Hungarian ambassador demonstrates the high esteem between the two countries.

"The Hungarian culture institute will soon open in Baku," he said. "It will promote Hungarian culture in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani culture - in Hungary."
