Kazakhstan and Russia can strengthen collaboration in the field of geological exploration to identify new promising oil and gas fields, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the XI Forum of Interregional Cooperation of Russia and Kazakhstan, the president's official website said.

In particular, this applies to the "Eurasia" international project.

"The main objectives of this project are the study of deep geological structure and geochemistry of the Earth's crust in the Caspian region, obtaining the space-time model and resource estimate," said Nursultan Nazarbayev. "Huge oil and gas potential of the Caspian cavity in Kazakhstan and Russia is of great interest for major international oil companies."

Kazakh President also pointed to the high potential for cooperation between the two countries in broadening of range of services for the development of the oil field infrastructure, including not only transport, logistics and construction, but also high-tech services such as engineering, design and information technologies.

The Head of State stressed the role of research for the development of the energy sector.

"Our academic institutions, through collaborative research, could engage in such promising areas as intensification of heavy oil, deep sea mining, oil shale, oil production of synthesis, alternative energy and more," said Nazarbayev.

The results of this collaboration of Russia and Kazakhstan can be demonstrated at the EXPO-2017 exhibition to be held in Astana, he said.

In turn, the Russian president said that the Interregional Cooperation Forum has become an important tool for the development of partnership relations between Russia and Kazakhstan.

"Over the past 11 years economic ties between the two countries have reached a qualitatively new level," Vladimir Putin said. "Bilateral trade turnover increased by more than 6 times. The volume of direct Russian investments in Kazakh economy increased by 10 times. This high dynamics is greatly facilitated by the investment interaction of our economies."
