The Azerbaijani government supports the expansion of ties with Estonia and will contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for the expansion of business cooperation, the Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov said.

He spoke at a meeting with representatives of the private sector in Estonia within the framework of the second meeting of the Azerbaijani-Estonian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Sept. 29-30 in Tallinn, the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan said Oct.1.

The report notes that the Azerbaijani delegation headed by Abbasov included representatives of ministries of energy, taxes, foreign affairs, economy and industry, education, culture and tourism, the Central Bank and the State Agency for the provision of services to citizens and social innovations under the President of Azerbaijan.

The issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia in the fields of industry, energy, information and communication technology, finance, customs duties and taxes, transport, agriculture, environmental protection, culture and others were discussed during the session of the intergovernmental commission.

The parties demonstrated their commitment to implementing a number of projects aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries during the meeting.

Fundamentals of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia were laid in the joint declaration signed by the heads of the two countries in 2009-2010, the report said.

Taking into account the mutual interest of the parties in the cooperation in the fields of industry and energy, several meetings were held both with representatives of government agencies and business circles of Estonia, the report said.

In particular, the Minister of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan met with the Rector of Tallinn University of Technology, got acquainted with Estonian "Tehnopolis" technological park, visited the e-government Academy, whose task is to use opportunities of ICT in the public dialogue and democratic governance.

On the results of the intergovernmental meeting the heads of Estonian and Azerbaijani delegations, Urve Palo and Ali Abbasov signed a protocol, the report said.

In January-August 2014 the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Estonia amounted to $3.9 million, which is a 1.7 times decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
