Azerbaijan and Iran will determine the criteria and technical specifications of electromagnetic areas of television and radio channels broadcasted in the border areas, the State Administration of Radio Frequencies (SARF) of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend.

The work will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union and at the level of experts and technicians of the two countries, SARF said.

The agreement on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in this field is stated in the protocol, which was signed during the Iranian delegation`s visit to Azerbaijan this week.

Azerbaijan and Iran prepare new protocol, envisaging the regulation of air frequencies.Technical experts will also be involved to the preparation process of the document.

At present, an agreement on the use of frequency resources of GSM-range in the border areas has been reached between the two countries.

In May 2013, the parties signed a new protocol on the equal use of the channels of the frequency spectrum of 900 MHz (124 channel) and 1800 MHz (374 channel) for GSM-communication which is aimed at preventing overlapping of frequencies, as well as to ensure the normal operation of mobile communication in border areas.

Today, the countries use the same base stations and the same frequency resources, which creates interference to each other. The agreement allows to organize the usage of radio spectrum, as well as significantly reduce the likelihood of interference with radio electronic facilities in border areas. Azerbaijan signed the similar agreement also with Georgia, Turkey and Russia.
