The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and High Technologies has issued a license to CDMA operator of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic - Nakhtel to use frequencies for LTE (Long Term Evolution) network deployment, Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov told media Sept. 3.

"The operator appealed to the ministry to get permission to expand its activity in the territory of Azerbaijan," he added.

"At present, we intend to ensure its functioning on the basis of domestic roaming," he added. "Then the issuance of a license for the deployment of mobile services throughout the territory of Azerbaijan will be considered."

Currently, the operator renders CDMA wireless communication services by using 800-900 MHz frequency.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Farid Hajiyev was commenting on "Nakhtel" plans for the construction of its own base stations.

He said that at the first phase, it is planned to render telecommunications services and the Internet over the base stations of "Bakcell", "Azercell" and "Azerfon" mobile operators. This issue will be coordinated with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and High Technologies. The company gradually plans to build and expand its network of base stations.

Mobile communication network covers virtually the entire territory of the country (except the occupied territories).

3G services are deployed not only at all the stations of Baku Metro, but also in the tunnels. Azerfon (Nar Mobile) has started using 3G network since December 2009. Among three mobile operators operating in Azerbaijan, it was the first to obtain a license for this service.

But Azercell mobile operator has commissioned a high-speed 4G network based on LTE technology since May 2012.
